2월 16일 Privacy settingsThere's another little feature that's a part of your gamer profile that you may have missed. Privacy settings! Privacy settings allow you to fine tune what info is available about you on Xbox Live, and to whom.
Tip: To set online privacy options, select your gamer card then select Edit Gamer Profile, Privacy Settings.
The first five settings control your interaction with other people on Xbox Live. Each of these (communications, online status, gamer profile, played games, and member content) can be set to one of three options: Everyone, Friends Only, or Blocked. A setting of Everyone means that anyone on Xbox Live can perform that action. If you want to limit access to just the people on your friends list, pick Friends Only. If you're a total recluse and don't to interact with anyone, choose Blocked.
Communications - Use this to control who can send you messages and invites. You'll still receive friend requests and system messages no matter what you set.
Online Status - Choose who can see your online status. People who can't see your online status (non-friends if you have it set to Friends Only, or anyone if you set it to Blocked) will always see you as offline. See my online status entry for more info about online status.
Played Games - Control who can see your list of played games. Handy if you've been playing a super-top-secret game that no one should see yet. Or, maybe you just want to hide the fact you've been playing Barbie Horse Adventure 2: Electric Boogaloo*.
Gamer Profile - Control who can see your motto. Fun fact: this used to be both gamer picture and motto (hence the more generic "gamer profile" label) but it was changed during development to just motto.
Member Content - This one doesn't have a lot of use right now, but it will as people create content to share with other people. You can choose whether you want to see the content.
The last two options are for marketing. Essentially, you're telling Xbox Live whether you want them to bug you in e-mail. You originally set these when you signed up for Xbox Live.
Xbox Marketing - This controls whether you want Microsoft or Xbox to send you offers and info in e-mail. You can opt in or opt out.
Partner Marketing - This controls whether you want other parties (publishers, partners, and the like) to send you e-mail. You can opt in or opt out.
One thing to note: these settings apply only to autonomous adult accounts. If you've got a child account controlled by Family Settings, there are similar options, but they're set in Xbox Live Family Settings on the System blade. Parents can control their child's privacy settings there.
So there you go. More ways to customize your own experience on Xbox Live. Enjoy!
* this game does not exist. Well, it exists, if only in my dreams...
